We also developed an alternative method for view-dependent texturing, and we call this other method view-based rendering (VBR). The greatest difference to the previous method is that instead of combining the data into a single surface model, we model the views separately and combine the information in the image space rather than in 3D.

As before, we start with a collection of registered views, illustrated as the small cameras around the little dog.

Each view contains range and color data. The range data is approximated using a triangle mesh, which is then (statically) textured using the color image.
