On 12/21, we left Nuremberg and headed off to Dortmund, where we stayed through Christmas with Christine's friends Peter and Henni Scholz, at Hombruch (a suburb of Dortmund). Our wonderful hosts took us all around town, but we also made one trip on our own by train to nearby Recklinghausen, in order to visit Christine's friend Sven Christen, and his family.

On the road to Dortmund
The snow-covered icy road conditions. Thankfully, the road was well-travelled, and the rental car had snow tires, so the drive posed no dangers... except that the windshield water pump outlets would freeze, and we couldn't wipe off ice forming on the windshield - nothing that Christine's earring and little ingenuity could not fix at gas stops!
