Abstract

Tools describe a purposeful relationship to the world. The screwdriver, for example, projects its purpose into the world, which is to loosen and tighten screws. If computer graphics are a tool, what purpose do they project into the world, and what relationships to the world can they produce? Greg Niemeyer will approach this question with some historic examples, and will present his related research project, Digital Daylight.
